STARHAWK on Social Permaculture
a Workshop for Leaders
April 3-6, 2025

Leadership in change-making is critical for these intense times.  However, the work of change and transformation must be done with other people – those annoying beings who do not always agree with us, and want their own way!

Collaborative groups may be healing, nurturing, and inspirational—or they may founder on the rocks of conflict and poor communication. But when we understand their patterns and challenges, we can design structures that favor supportive, nurturing relationships.

In this 4-day intensive in-person course, Starhawk guides us through many of her personal discoveries, drawing on her decades of experience —often wonderful, sometimes painful—in activist groups, spiritual groups, permaculture groups, collective households and more.  We will be covering material from Starhawk's book:  "The Empowerment Manual: A Guide for Collaborative Groups" and experience group activities that underscore critical skills in bridging diversity of culture and norms.

Starhawk's workshops weave together inclusion, support, knowledge, ritual, community, acknowledgments appropriate to land other living things, excellent farm-fresh foods prepared with love and intention, as well as diversity, laughter, life-lessons and memories to last a lifetime.  We will have both outdoor and indoor space available for gathering together, with ample time to recharge each day.   Campfire circle and  evening activities optional.

THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU IF YOU BELONG TO:

  • A group or organization seeking to make change

  • A nonprofit or NGO that seeks to work collaboratively

  • A spiritual circle, ritual group, or faith community

  • A community group, Transition Town, collective, or worker-run cooperative

  • An intentional community or household–or hope to start one

  • A collaborative arts, theater, or music group, or band

  • A family or a community of friends who want to improve communications and ways of handling conflict

ABOUT THE VENUE: Golden Rocks Permaculture Farm was founded in 2010 and specializes in teaching earthen building concepts, and producing fresh herbs, herbal tea blends and seasonal organic produce using poly-cropping, companion planting and bio-intensive farming practices. Through the permaculture lens, concepts of Earth Care; People Care; and Fair Share are played out in the gardens and in the community that we serve.

Cost for the full 4-day workshop starts at $695 and includes organic meals daily from our gardens, inclusive of onsite camping at beautiful Golden Rocks Permaculture Farm located in Middletown, Lake County, CA.  Bunk rooms and "glamping" sites are available for an additional fee.  We are deliciously close to Harbin Hot Springs, and if you are coming from out of town, you may want to consider staying on an extra day or two in order to visit the springs!
